150 issues mapped is still free — the limit is inclusive. This is the last card that costs nothing.
Card number 151 is the one Free will not place — StoryMap asks you to upgrade first. Pro is $39 a month for the whole workspace, and that single placement is the entire difference between the two prices.

Connecting doesn't pick a plan. You land on your own board on Free, and nothing changes until the day 150 mapped issues stops being enough.
Every extra pair of eyes is free.
Nothing is charged per person. Most people who benefit from a story map never move a card on it — if every extra pair of eyes cost money, teams would ration access, and a map half the company can see stops being a shared picture of the product.
So the price is attached to the workspace you map, never to a seat count. Today those extra readers arrive through a read-only link rather than an account of their own — invitations are not built yet — and the link costs nothing on either plan.
What counts toward 150
An issue is mapped once it sits in a cell on the board. Issues still waiting in the review tray haven't been placed, so they don't count — and the workspace behind the board can be far larger than the map, because only what you place counts toward 150.
Reach 150 on Free and nothing is deleted or hidden. You just can't place anything new until you unmap something or upgrade.
Questions worth answering
- Is Free a trial?
- No. It's the whole product, permanently, up to 150 mapped issues. There's no countdown and no feature locked behind Pro — stay on Free as long as 150 is enough.
- How much of my workspace does one board cover?
- One Linear team. You pick the team when you connect, and that team becomes the board — so only one map is retained today. You can replace it with another team from the board menu without changing your plan, but replacing removes the current map and its share link first. Nothing in Linear changes.
- Why only two plans?
- We don't yet know where the value boundaries are, and inventing them early means charging for fences instead of for the product. When customers show us what a larger plan should contain, we'll build it.
- What happens to my Linear data?
- It stays in Linear. StoryMap stores the map — columns, slices and where each card sits — never the issue text; titles, statuses, estimates and assignees are read live. Cancel Pro and the map stays. Ask us to delete the account and the map goes with it. Neither touches anything in Linear.
- Can I cancel anytime?
- Yes, from the billing portal. Billing is monthly, so there's no annual commitment to unwind. You keep Pro to the end of the period, then drop to Free: everything already mapped stays visible and movable, and you simply can't map more past 150 until you unmap some or resubscribe. Nothing is deleted.
- Who appears on the invoice?
- Payments run through Stripe's managed payments, which acts as merchant of record. VAT, GST and sales tax are calculated at checkout and remitted for you, and your receipt comes from there rather than from us.
- Do you support Jira?
- No, and we don't plan to. Linear-only is the product: a second tracker would double the surface area and halve the polish.
